KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that ongoing operation in Karachi was aimed at elimination of militias engaged in criminal activities.

“The ongoing operation against armed militias including criminals in Karachi is consequent to a consensus among all political parties equally committed to national interest,” said the prime minister while addressing the Karachi Stock Exchange’s Top Companies Awards distribution ceremony.

Nawaz, reiterating that all political parties were on-board to flush out terrorists as well as criminal elements within the country, said the operation in Karachi was focused on restoring law and order situation.”It does not hold any communal or lingual connotation but is to get rid of criminals engaged in target killings, extortion, abduction for ransom and other heinous crimes,” he said.

He said peace was pre-requisite for development and investment adding that inability to ensure these in Karachi, the commercial hub of the country, would have a negative impact on all other parts of the country. “Hence we will continue with our efforts till criminal tendencies come to their logical end and the people feel secure,” said the prime minister, mentioning that Sindh government was with the federal government in achieving this objective.

“We are working together and all concerned parties who have their stakes are also on board,” stressed the PM.

He said PML-N government would achieve the goals set under its election manifesto was fully focused on regaining financial and economic stability for the country.

Nawaz said his government in its initial period attempted to address terrorism through dialogue and finally launched “Zarb- e- Azb”.

“We through war on terror have managed to achieve significant success in elimination of terrorism at the cost of precious lives as well as that of material loss worth millions of dollars,” he said. This, he added had its impact on national as well as international level helping the country to regain its lost reputation.
