LB elections: Zardari asks party workers to start public drive

KARACHI: The upcoming local body (LB) elections should be held on party basis, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) office bearers should start public campaign, as party would soon hold public gatherings throughout country in this regard, Asif Zardari said on Thursday. PPP co-chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari addressing a meeting of officer bearers of Karachi districts including districts Malir, South, West, Central, East and Korangi said there was a strong bond between PPP and people of Pakistan. PPP and masses have not left each other in their difficult times and this relationship would last forever like past. Rejecting non-party basis elections to be held in Cantonment areas in April he said local body elections should be held on party basis in Cantonment areas like other cities and villages of country. If government will not consider very demand of people of Pakistan then PPP will present people’s case in honourable courts, he said. He consulted with party office bearers over ongoing development projects in Karachi and other political matters and issued directives in this regard. Bakhtwar Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, Ms Faryal Talpur member National Assembly, Ms Sherry Rehman, Senator Saeed Ghani, Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani, Najmi Alam and others attended the meeting. PPP Karachi division and district office bearers presented special reports to Zardari regarding preparations for death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto being observed on April 4.
