LHC reserves verdict on NAB chairman’s powers

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday reserved its judgement on a petition concerning the powers of the NAB chairman.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi heard the petition filed by Asif Ali whose counsel argued that the NAB chairman had referred the reference involving a fraud of Rs 110 million from a special court to an accountability court.

According to the lawyer, the NAB chairman does not have the powers to transfer a case from one court to the other. He misused his powers and interfered in a court matter. However, the counsel for NAB said the petitioner was a proclaimed offender for the last seven years, while the other accused in the case had been sentenced. The prosecutor, therefore, requested the court to reject the plea. The court after hearing the arguments of both parties reserved the judgment.
