ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has showed concern over the detention of Hurriyet leaders in Indian Held Kashmir.

As per the statement given by Foreign Office, Hurriyet leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and Asiya Andrabi were detained so that they do not attend the Pakistan Day function at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday. The statement read that these arbitrary restrictions were against the principles of democracy and freedom of movement.

The statement read, "We impress upon India to release the Kashmiri leaders and representatives from Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir so that they are able to attend Pakistan National Day reception."

According to Kashmir Media Service, a massive crackdown was launched against Hurriyet leaders to prevent them from visiting New Delhi for the function.

The Pakistan High Commission had invited the Hurriyet leaders to attend the March 23 function. The authorities have put the Hurriyet leaders either under house arrest or in custody. Indian police arrested All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan at Srinagar airport when he was on way to board a plane for New Delhi. The police also raided the houses of Showkat Ahmed Bakhshi and other leaders and reportedly harassed the inmates.
