Indian president wishes Pakistan on Pakistan Day

NEW DELHI: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee wished Pakistan on its 77th National day.

“Greetings to the government and people of Pakistan on their National Day,” Mukherjee wrote. India is committed to building ties with Pakistan in an environment free from terror and violence, he added.

The nation commenced celebrations for 77th Pakistan Day with a pledge to make the country stronger by wiping out terrorism and achieving sustainable economic growth and political stability.

Pakistan Day commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution, when a separate nation for the Muslims of the British Indian Empire was demanded on March 23, 1940.

Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, President Mamnoon termed Pakistan’s defence as impregnable and said that the country’s conventional and nuclear capabilities were meant to ensure global and regional peace. He expressed the resolve to render any sacrifice for defence, security, development, and prosperity of the country.

The president further stated that Pakistan is ready for dialogue with India and wants resolution of the ongoing Kashmir dispute.
