PPP files resolution to rename Sulemanki Headworks

LAHORE: One of the opposition parties in the Punjab Assembly (PA), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has submitted a resolution in the assembly secretariat to rename Sulemanki Headworks after the name of the Pak Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s brother Major Shabir Shaheed as a tribute to the national hero.

The resolution was submitted by PPP leader Mian Khurram Jahangir Khan Wattoo in the Notice Branch of the Punjab Assembly secretariat on Thursday hopefully to be moved in the next session in May.

Wattoo has suggested the government in his resolution: “The name of Head Sulemanki, located in District Okara, should be replaced as Major Shabir Shaheed Head Works Sulamanki.” According to the resolution, Major Shabir Shaheed, elder brother of the Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, embraced martyrdom while defending the country in 1971 and was awarded the highest award of gallantry, Nishan-e-Haider. The PPP leader further stated in the resolution that it was appropriate to honour the most decorated army officer in the most befitting manner.
