OIC ombudsmen calls on president

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has called for strengthening the institution of ombudsman in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states by promoting and sharing of expertise, best practices in complaint handling skills, speedy dispensation of public grievances and capacity building. He said this while exchanging views with a delegation of OIC Ombudsmen that called on him at Presidency on Thursday. The president highlighted the importance of the ombudsman as an institution for dispensation of justice through a speedy and inexpensive process having maximum outreach. He called for making collective efforts for providing expeditious relief to the people and for serving the cause of humanity. He mentioned that Pakistan has the distinction of being the first country in the South Asian region to establish not only general purpose Wafaqi Mohtasib (1983) but also took a lead in establishing single mandate offices in the areas of taxation, banking, insurance and harassment of women at work-place in the SAARC region. He praised the establishment of OIC Ombudsmen Association (OICOA).
