Same group involved in murders of two Karachi DSPs in 10 days

KARACHI: Initial investigation into the killing of a senior police officer in Karachi has revealed that the same group was involved in the murder of another officer 10 days earlier, Geo News has learnt.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior police official DSP Zulfiqar Ali Zaidi near Eidgah Ground in Shah Faisal Colony area late Saturday night. Zaidi was the security in-charge of the Sindh Hight Court.

His killing came 10 days after the assassination of another senior police official, DSP Abdul Fatah Sangri.

Sangri was gunned down along with his driver and security guard in Gulshan-i-Hadeed area on May 1.

Police detectives investigating the murders now believe that gunmen involved in both attacks belonged to the same militant group, Geo News has learnt.

Police suspect the involvement of a banned militant outfit in the two murders.

Murder case yet to be registered

Twelve hours after the killing of DSP Zaidi, police officials are yet to register the First Information Report (FIR) of the murder.

Members of Zaidi's family say they visited the police station to file a case, but police was not cooperating with them.

Meanwhile, sources in the police told Geo News that both police officers kept themselves exposed to the danger of attacks by not heeding security advisories.

A new security advisory is likely to be issued for policemen in the wake of DSP Zaidi's killing.
