UMT holds moot on role of writers in building peaceful & educated society

LAHORE: A literary conference was held with the collaboration of Pakistan Academy of Letters on the theme of ‘Role of Writers in the Building of Peaceful and Educated Society’ on Monday.

The conference was inaugurated by well-known literary poet Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi. The literary conference was addressed by Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters Dr Qasim Bhugio, Naimat Ullah Guchki, Intzar Hussain and Sehar Gull Bhatti. The conference had three sessions in total where a number of literary articles were presented. On the occasion, a number of renowned poets, UMT faculty members and large number of students were present.
Welcoming the guests Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said that literary people were asset of the country, their role for promoting culture of love, tolerance and devotion was critical.
He said although UMT was fundamentally an institution of science and technology, yet it believed greatly that literature was mirror of life that must be promoted because both education and literature were interlinked. Dr Hasan also said that sponsorship of literature was an element essentially required for the nation building and its recognition. He termed literary figures as true leaders of society whose criticism on society had positive impact. The rector added that no nation can go ahead and make progress without giving respect and appreciation to literary persons.
