35 detained in Rangers, police search operations in Karachi

KARACHI: At least 35 people have been detained as Rangers and police conducted search operations in different areas of the city on Thursday.

In Liaqatabad, 15 people were detained when the Rangers carried out a search operation in the area. Sources said a unit-in-charge of a political party was among the people detained. The detained individuals have been shifted to an unknown location for interrogation, sources added.

The police conducted operations in the Frontier Colony and Orangi Town areas of the city. 20 people were detained during these raids.

On Wednesday, at least 70 suspects were rounded in targeted operation conducted in Sohrab Goth, Lasi Goth and areas around Memon Hospital, a Rangers spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the raids were also conducted at suspected hideouts of banned outfits in Ayub Goth, Machar Colony, Afghan Basti, Janjal Goth, Jamali Goth and Faqeera Goth.

Search operations in the city have intensified after gunmen killed 46 people on-board a bus belonging to the Ismaili community near Safoora Chowrangi on Wednesday.
