Ex-CJP’s defamation suit adjourned without proceedings
INP

ISLAMABAD - Hearing of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s defamation and compensation claim case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was adjourned till May 30 without any proceedings due to the absence of judge on Saturday.

The hearing was to be held in district and sessions court, but was adjourned as Judge Tanveer Mir was on leave. The hearing was of great importance as earlier the court granted a last chance to Imran Khan to submit reply until May 16.

Assistant of Khan’s counsel Babar Awan, Khawar Ali Meer filed a plea in the court stating the sessions court was not authorised to hold hearing of any compensation claim, which was more than Rs 20 crore. He expressed resentment over the plaintiff’s counsel for not submitting to court dues of the case.

However, ex-CJP’s counsel Sheikh Ahsanuddin said the defence counsel was repeatedly filing pleas regarding court’s jurisdiction, whereas the court had already given verdict over the issue. Plaintiff’s counsel Taufeeq Asif said the PTI chairman was not interested in submitting reply in the case.
