Ex-CJ’s case against PTI chief: Hearing adjourned till May 30 as judge being on leave
INP

ISLAMABAD: The hearing of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s defamation and compensation claim case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was adjourned till May 30 without any proceedings due to the absence of the judge on Saturday. The hearing was to be held in District and Sessions Court Islamabad but was adjourned as Judge Tanveer Mir was on leave. The hearing was of great importance as earlier the sessions court granted a last chance to Imran Khan to submit his reply until May 16. Assistant of Imran’s counsel Babar Awan, Khawar Ali Meer, filed a plea in the court stating that the sessions court is not authorised to hold hearing of any compensation claim which is more than Rs200 million. He expressed resentment over the plaintiff’s counsel for not submitting court dues of the case. However, ex-CJP’s counsel Sheikh Ahsanuddin said that the defence counsel is repeatedly filing pleas regarding court’s jurisdiction whereas the court has already given verdict over the issue. Plaintiff’s counsel Taufeeq Asif said that the PTI chairman is not interested in submitting a reply in the case.
