Ending extremism: Ulema urged to guide people about tolerance

Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Sunday said Ulema would have to play their role against division of Muslims on the basis of sects.

Addressing the concluding session of a two-day training of Ulema and students organised by Ilm-o-Aman Foundation, Tahir Ashrafi said extremism created violence in societies, therefore, Ulema would have to guide the people about tolerance and religious harmony to make a moderate society. He added that Ulema should come forward to play their vital role for promoting Islamic teachings, which gives a message of peace, love and brotherhood.
The PUC was trying its level best to resolve issues between different schools of thought and sects in a better way, Ashrafi added. He stressed upon the need to make an organized struggle to end terrorism and extremism.
