CM reviews progress on educational reforms in Punjab

Govt enhances scholarship amount for high school girl students

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has chaired a meeting in Lahore to review the pace of progress on educational reforms programme for the promotion of quality education.

On the occasion, he directed that immediate measures should be taken for achieving the target of enrollment. He also gave approval to a number of decisions to ensure hundred per cent enrollments in all schools across Punjab. He said that it was responsibility of the government to equip every child with education and a comprehensive programme was being implemented for this purpose.

Shahbaz said that all out resources were being utilised for the enrolment of every child, adding that education was the destiny of children. He said that quality education was the right of children and utmost efforts were needed to ensure this right. He said that there was a need to equip the young generation with modern education.

He said that children working at brick kilns, workshops, petrol pumps and hotels would be enrolled while child labour would be eliminated at any cost. He said that a financial assistance would be provided through Khidmat Cards to children working in different work places if they went to school.

The meeting also gave approval to enhancing the amount of scholarship to the girl students of high schools in south Punjab and some other districts. The chief minister said that maximum resources were being given for providing education to children.
