Govt to resolve ToRs matter with consensus: Dar

Minister terms ToRs by opposition 'family specific'

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar Saturday said the government was sincere to resolve the issue of terms of reference (ToRs) with consensus of all political parties.

While talking to a private news channel, Dar said the opposition should display some seriousness to get the matter resolved instead of doing politics over it.

He said the government was ready to hold dialogue with all the political parties for developing consensus, but it won’t allow any delay in the country's development process.

The finance minister, who is the head of the five-member government team that will hold talks with the opposition, said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had presented himself and his family for accountability in the wake of Panama Papers.

Having an offshore company was not illegal but the Prime Minister immediately announced to form a commission to investigate the allegations levelled against him and his family, he added.

Dar said it was very unfortunate that when the country was moving on the path of progress and development, issues like Panama Papers were created to stop the process of speedy progress.

He said that the government had prepared very professional and comprehensive ToRs for the judicial commission, which would be fully authorised to take assistance from any provincial and federal department.

The minister termed the ToRs sent by the opposition 'family specific' and said that it looked like a charge sheet against the prime minister, adding that the government had taken all political parties on board on matters of national interest.
