CM, Corps Commander discuss strategy for peace in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that operation against terrorists in the city has produced commendable results because of coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies but off and on target killing incidents shed water on our entire efforts.

“A comprehensive strategy to make peace in the city sustainable is need of hour”.

He said this while talking to Corps Commander Karachi Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar who called on him here at CM House today. In the-one-on-one meeting, they discussed law & order, targeted operation, implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) and decisions taken in the Apex Committee meetings and recent incident of target killing of Khurram Zaki and such other issues.

They discussed the progress of the cases being tried in anti-terrorism Courts and also the cases sent to military courts. It was also discussed that the case of Safoora Goth tragedy has also been sent for trial for military courts and all the required formalities have been completed. However, follow up of the case was being made by the provincial law team under the guidance of home department.

The meeting was later joined by Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and he briefed the meeting on over all law & order situation and target killing. He said that the investigation into the murder of Khurram Zaki was in progress. He added that all aspects of the murder were being probed and the killer would be arrested soon.

The home minister also said that the culprits who had thrown the crackers in Lyari have been arrested. Some hardened criminals were rounded up during the operation carried out last night.

The chief minister said that he would not allow anybody to play with law and order. “We have restored peace with our collective efforts now measures are being taken to make it sustainable," he said.

The corps Commander, Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar said that in the next Apex committee meeting strategy for sustainable peace in the city would be evolved.

In the meeting the chief minister and corps commander lauded the efforts of Rangers, police and intelligence agencies for their close coordination and untiring efforts in the operation against terrorists.
