Affluent classes to be brought into tax net: Shehbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said that affluent classes would have to be brought into tax net for strengthening national economy and progress of the country.

He was addressing a function regarding second balloting for Amanat Scheme under restaurant invoice monitoring system of Punjab Revenue Authority at Model Town here.

He said that it was time to promote tax culture and the Punjab government had introduced a unique Amanat Scheme in the province for this purpose.

He said that provincial government had introduced restaurant invoice monitoring system for tax collection.

He said that under this system taxpayers were being given prizes of billions of rupees through transparent balloting.

He said that big decisions had to be taken for achieving self-sufficiency and the nations were not built through mere slogans.

Shehbaz Sharif said that such nations were destroyed of which the persons who could afford to pay taxes get their loans written off.

He said that time had come for strict and indiscriminate accountability of corrupt elements.

He said that those who had got their loans waived off on political basis indulged in loot of national resources misappropriated funds through kickbacks or been involved in corruption would have to face ruthless accountability.

He said that Pakistan could not make progress without indiscriminate accountability of corrupt elements.

The Chief Minister said that it was a historic opportunity to rid the country of poverty ignorance unemployment and problems and there was a need to benefit from it in the interest of the country.

He said that the whole nation was united over accountability of corrupt elements and there should not be any delay in this regard.
