Senate chairman rejects adjournment motion on admissibility issue

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Friday rejected an adjournment motion (AM) discussing the implication of the incident of custodial death of a political activist in Karachi allegedly at the hands of Law enforcement agencies.

The adjournment was presented by Senator Farhatullah Babar. The Senate chairman in his ruling over the admissibility of the adjournment motion said that Rangers were working in Sindh on the requisition of the provincial government so it was a provincial subject and could not be discussed in the Senate.

The calling attention notice on the agenda regarding the wastage of taxpayers’ money by the federal government for the personal campaign in electronic and print media of the Prime Minister with respect to Panama leaks was also dropped, movers were not present on the floor of House.

The House also passed a motion under Rule 196 (1) to adopt the report of the Committee of Whole to consider mode of elections of members of Senate, pros and cons of single transferable voting system, alternates and poll reforms.

A report about conversion of 1400 acres of land of National Agricultural Research Council by the Capital Development Authority into residential/commercial plots was also presented. The House extended the presentation period of report on starred question about recent transfer of political agents in various agenceis of FATA.
