No leniency for PM over Panama, says Bilawal

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Friday said that his party would not be lenient towards Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the issue pertaining to Panama Paper.

According to media reports, the PPP chief, who returned to Karachi after meeting his father Asif Ali Zardari in Dubai, directed his party not to compromise on the issue of Panama Papers.

The development comes amid reports that the government had asked the opposition to remove the name of Prime Minister Nawaz from the proposed terms of reference (ToRs) for an inquiry into Panama revelations.

Leader of Opposition in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan had said that even if the prime minister’s name is excluded, his name would still be included by virtue of him being father of Hussain Nawaz, whose name is an integral part of the Panama Papers issue.

Earlier today, a notification issued by the National Assembly Secretariat said that Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid had replaced Khawaja Asif, who was a part of the government team in the 12-member parliamentary committee to probe the Panama issue.
