Police release Mustafa Kamal, other PSP leaders

KARACHI: Police released Pak Sarzameen Party chief Mustafa Kamal, other leaders Raza Haroon and Dr Saghir Ahmed after brief detention late on Sunday night.

Police on Sunday took Mustafa Kamal and others leaders into custody after resorting to baton charge and shelling to disperse PSP activists who tried to march towards the CM House.

Speaking to Geo News after detention, the PSP chief said he was being shifted to Kalakot police station. He said he had not entered the Red Zone. “I am being taken into custody for demanding water for the children of Karachi,” he said.

Police also detained Raza Haroon, Dr Saghir and over 10 PSP workers. Police claimed that the PSP had not taken permission to enter the South Zone.

Earlier, police used tear-gas shells and water cannon to disperse PSP workers assembled near Aisha Bawany College.

Meanwhile, reacting to the arrest of PSP leaders, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the Constitution ensures provision of holding political gatherings.

Nisar condemned the use of power against the PSP leaders and workers.
