Zardari fails to find ‘Naya Pakistan’

* Former president says he and Bilawal would contest upcoming polls
PESHAWAR: Former president Asif Zardari on Wednesday said that no new Pakistan has been witnessed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Addressing a press conference, he said that tsunami was not a good thing as it caused a major disaster in KP while KP played a significant role in liberating and defending the Pakistan.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif claimed to be a tiger, adding that tiger is a beast which harms other animals. Zardari also said that Nawaz was cheating the people of FATA.

"In the general elections of 2013, I could not run the election campaign in organised way, but in upcoming general polls, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and I would contest the election of National Assembly."

"Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and I would jointly run the election campaign in Sindh in upcoming general polls."

He said tribal jirga was being held while Nawaz was introducing new bill on FATA which would be opposed by the PPP.

Zardari said that salaries of government employees of each category were increased up to 150 % during PPP regime as they were aware of situation caused by price hiking.

Talking about his visit of Peshawar, he said that it was the part of his political activities and promised to visit the city again.

He said that during his visit, he met the heirs of APS carnage victims, adding that after this tragic incident, decision to establish military courts in the country was made. Zardari demanded to reinvestigate the APS carnage.

"Muslims are the major victims in war against terrorism. The war was imposed on Pakistan due to some illegible people."

Citing his first speech in UNO, Zardari said, "We are losing the war of mindset."

Recognising the sacrifices of the Pashtun in the war on terror, Zardari said that the Pashtun have rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war.

PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar said the former president asked the party to reject the proposed Rewaj Act.

Zardari said that making the president and KP governor the sole lords of FATA and the FCR were two colonial instruments to keep the people subjugated. The twin pillars of colonial power structure must be demolished, he asserted.

Separately, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari approved office-bearers for central Punjab.
