Bhagwandas withdraws name from CEC contention

KARACHI: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice (retd) Rana Bhangwandas has withdrawn his name from contention for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Speaking to Geo News after meeting PPP leader Raza Rabbani, Justice (retd) Bhagwandas said he had thanked Rabbani for the PPP nominating him for the CEC post. The former chief justice said that due to personal reasons he could not accept the PPP’s nomination.

Justice (retd) Bhagwandas added that he had not been contacted by the government and emphasised that the Election Commission of Pakistan was not independent.

Rabbani told reporters he tried to convince Justice (retd) Bhangwandas to accept the nomination for CEC but he excused himself.
