Shehla Reza’s comments lead to uproar in Sindh Assembly

KARACHI: A ruckus was witnessed in the Sindh Assembly as MQM lawmakers chanted ‘go Shela go’ slogans against Deputy Speaker Shehla Reza.

The slogans were in reaction to Shehla Reza’s remarks towards MQM MPA Muhammad Hussain during the last provincial assembly session on November 11. The MQM MPA was trying to speak continuously on a motion pertaining to poisonous liquor when he was told by Reza not to make ‘dimagh ka dahi’ (yogurt of the brain).

On Friday, MQM MPA Muhammad Hussain expressed anger over Reza’s remarks and asked Speaker Aga Siraj Durani if such language is used in the assembly. In an effort to defuse the situation, Durrani ordered for Reza’s remarks to be expunged from the record.

Despite Durani’s order, Muhammad Hussain continued to speak which eventually led to Shehla Reza informing the assembly of the authority she holds and what led her to make the statement.

The ‘go shela go’ Shehla slogans were chanted by MQM lawmakers when Shehla Reza assumed the chair of speaker. Shehla Reza tried to defuse the situation by saying that the ‘dahi had now become lassi’ (the yogurt has become a drink) but MQM lawmakers continued to chant the slogan.
