Sartaj Aziz statement was reported out of context: FO
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday clarified that the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz made the statement in a historical context.
FO spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said, Pakistan has launched operation Zarb-e-Azb and taking action against all the terrorist groups without any distinction or discrimination.
She emphasized that Pakistan’s policy and actions should be seen in the light of its commitment to fight terrorism in all forms and manifestation.
Yesterday, in an interview given to BBC Urdu, Sartaz Aziz was quoted as saying “Afghan Taliban were Afghanistan’s problem while the Haqqani Network was also part of the Taliban”. “It is Afghan government’s responsibility to engage them in talks,” he added.
“Those who are enemies of America have now become our enemies for no reason,” said Aziz.
