Compensation paid to 227 quake-affected families in KP

PESHAWAR: Spokesman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government Mushtaq Ghani said on Thursday that 227 bereaved families and 368 injured of October 26 earthquake have been paid compensation money.

The KP govt spokesman said that 93,891 houses were damaged by the devastating earthquake adding that owners of 12,412 houses have received compensation so far. Similarly, he said, 562 government school buildings were destroyed by the quake in KP. About 234 schools were damaged in Upper Dir, 190 in Bunner, eight in Swabi, 53 in Tank, 28 in Battagram, 34 in Lakki Marwat and 15 in Bunnu, he added.

Giving breakup of loss of human lives, injured and damages in different districts, he said that 36 died in Swat with 253 injured, while 11,293 houses were damaged, adding that 4,247 families had received the compensation amount. Similarly, in Upper Dir, 16 people were killed, 162 injured and 234 schools and 12,683 houses were destructed by quake, 941 affected families got compensation. In Bunner, eight people were killed, 117 injured with 3,626 damaged houses and 190 schools. 533 victims have received compensation there, he said.

In Torghar, 16 people were killed, 27 injured and 700 houses were damaged while 15 bereaved families received compensation. In Kohistan Upper, 13 people were killed, 25 injured and 2,725 houses were damaged, while only 20 victims got compensation cheques. In Kohistan Lower, three people were killed, 27 injured and 1,486 houses were damaged while only six families received compensation. In Peshawar, earthquake claimed nine lives and left 165 injured with 187 damaged houses, Mushtaq said adding that four persons were killed in Charsaddha with eight injured and 110 damaged houses. In Mardan five people were killed, 16 injured and 102 houses were destructed, while in Nowshera two persons were killed and 17 injured with 1296 houses were damaged.

Mushtaq said that 33 persons were killed in Chitral and 200 injured while 20,355 houses were destroyed by the earthquake, while 3,698 affected families received compensation.
