Kerry, Gen Raheel discuss Pak-US ties, regional security

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and United States Secretary of State John Kerry met on Wednesday and discussed regional security including Afghanistan and India and Pakistan-US relations.

Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Asim Bajwa said on Twitter that the two deliberated the need and measures for regional stability in South Asia.

The Chief of the Army Staff COAS highlighted need for resolution of Kashmir issue in the meeting, said the DG of Pakistan Army’s media wing.


The secretary of state emphasised that the bilateral relations of the two countries were independent of all other countries.

Kerry acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions and enormous sacrifices in fight against terrorism. The COAS highlighted Pakistan’s perspective of regional security.

Afghanistan-owned reconciliation, challenges and the way forward discussed during the meeting.

Army Chief Gen Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s desire to solidify Pakistan-US relations based on mutual interest and respect, said the DG ISPR.
