Terrorism a threat to global peace: Sadiq

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday denounced the recent terrorist attack in France.

He termed terrorism a threat to the global peace and called for concerted efforts to eradicate it. He was talking to Romanian Ambassador Emilian Ion, who called on him in Parliament House on Friday. The speaker said Pakistan values its 50-year-old strong relations with Romania and wants to further cement them by reinvigorating parliamentary and economic contacts. He said Pakistan-Romania relations are based on mutual goodwill and understanding as well as converging views on important global issues. National Assembly of Pakistan strongly desires to build broad-based, substantive and long-term relations with Romanian legislature, Sadiq said while underlining the need for bilateral exchange of parliamentary delegations for further strengthening of Pak-Romania relations. He informed the ambassador about the Parliamentary Friendship group in the National Assembly and asked for replicating the same in Romanian Legislature. He said that interaction between legislators from both the countries would provide them opportunities to exchange views and share experiences. The speaker said Pakistan and Romania possess enormous economic potential, which need to be tapped for mutual benefit. He said that investors from either side could collaborate in diverse fields including investment, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, science and technology. He invited the Romanian investors to take advantage of those huge investment opportunities in Pakistan. Ambassador Emilian Ion appreciate the remarks of the speaker and said Romania also considers Pakistan one of its closest friends and wants to further strengthen it through parliamentary and economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts. He agreed that investors for both sides could create ripples in the economic arena. The he Romanian mission in Islamabad, the envoy said, was actively pursuing the issue and has already arranged interaction between Pakistani and Romanian business communities and various pacts of cooperation would be inked. The ambassador presented a letter of invitation to the speaker by speaker of Romanian Chamber of Deputies to visit Romania along with a parliamentary delegation. Sadiq accepted the invitation.
