MQM-P resolves to take legal options, as Karachi’s deputy mayor Vohra fails to resign
KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has resolved to search for legal options after defected member Arshad Vohra’s failure to resign from the office of Deputy Mayor.The party plans to write to the Election Commission of Pakistan after its planned protest on Sunday, according to sources.
The letter will notify the ECP of Vohra’s departure from the party and will highlight an act of the local government law which allows a party to request ECP in case of an elected party member’s withdrawal.
“An elected member cannot continue to hold the office in case of a party’s objections or if the member leaves the party”, states the act according to the letter.
Vohra switched parties and joined the Mustafa Kamal-led Pakistan Sarzameen Party on October 29, stating that he was not able to deliver to the people of Karachi.
It is reported that MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar has tasked two key members of his party to appease Vohra and regain his trust in MQM-P.

The MQM-P is rumored to be still uncertain whether to bring a new deputy mayor in place of Vohra, indicate sources. According to sources on Friday, some party members still are sympathetic towards the defected leader and they have not renounced his party membership.
