Paradise Leaks: FBR to investigate Pakistanis names in the papers

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is examining the Paradise Leaks papers, a spokesperson said on on Monday.

The FBR statement said that the list of names is extensive and all those Pakistani nationals named in the papers will be investigated.

Nearly a year and a half after the Panama Papers leaks shook the world elites by revealing the offshore holdings of some of the most powerful political players, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) released another treasure trove of datalate on Sunday.

The leaks consist of 13.4 million files from “a combination of offshore service providers and the company registries of some of the world’s most secretive countries”.

The papers mention the names of 135 Pakistani nationals, including former prime minister Shaukat Aziz.

The documents include loan agreements, financial statements, emails, trust deeds and other paperwork from Appleby, a leading offshore law firm with offices in Bermuda, as well as files from a smaller trust company, Asiaciti.
