ISLAMABAD - Leaders of the Opposition in Senate Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Wednesday said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was not considering any proposal regarding mid-term elections.

Talking to journalists outside the Supreme Court building here, he said that Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah was a man of principles and he did not call for holding mid-term polls.

“No one can force Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to resign and the PPP will oppose any such move,” he said.

Aitzaz said that the protestors’ demand for dissolution of the Parliament was unacceptable. How the government would tackle matters if any organized group held sit-ins outside the Supreme Court building to get a terrorist or most wanted person released, he asked.

He opined that there was no pressure on the prime minister to quit after the joint session of parliament. He should take a bold stand and not accept demands of Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri, who were using their workers for their game, Aitzaz said.

He said that temporary sit-ins and rallies could not bring any change and the people would forget the same after a few days. He urged the government to take steps for resolving problems being faced by the masses.

To a question, Aitzaz said that he had been associated with the PPP for the last 30 years. The party was actively helping the flood victims in Punjab, he said.
