JEDDAH – Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah – in his Hajj sermon in Masjid-e-Nimra at Mount Arafat on Friday – has said that murder is a great sin and ‘haram’ in Islam.

He urged Muslims to shun evil, practice unity and follow teachings of Islam, as it’s a complete code of life, it’s a perfect and definite religion of Allah, it teaches brotherhood among Muslims and provides spiritual, moral and social training.

Addressing millions of Hajj pilgrims, he urged Muslims to keep away from crimes, such as murder and other evil deeds. “The murder is great fitna (mischief) in Islam. Our religion teaches obedience of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” he said.

“Islam prohibits obscenity as haram and sin… Oh Muslims! Be God-fearing, keep a control on yourselves,” he said. “Oh believers! Murder of a single person is the murder of entire humanity, and the one who committed this act unduly shall burn in the hell forever.”

He urged the Muslim rulers to discharge their duties honestly and said that they should not forget that they are answerable before Allah. The grand mufti asked the believers not to follow their wild wishes and worship Allah and remain thankful to Him for the blessings. He said that Islam preaches brotherhood and unity and one should never surrender that.

“Tyranny throws one in darkness whereas takwah (fear of Allah) leads one towards success,” he said. He said that the un-Islamic forces were hatching conspiracies against Islam and Muslim countries. “Blood is being shed… Khawarij (those who seceded from the mainstream Islam) are still among the ranks of Muslims,” he said.

The grand mufti said that jihad was also an obligation of Islam which should be carried out as per true and definite teachings of Islam. Praying to Allah for betterment and success of the Muslims, the top Islamic scholar urged Muslims to observe patience in their lives in testing times, protect each other’s lives and properties and work together for the success and prosperity of societies.

He said deviation from Islamic teachings was also one of the reasons for the problems faced by Muslims and the media of Muslim countries should play its role for raising the flag of Islam in the world. He said that Islam was easiest of religions, religion of humanity, based on truth and justice. “It contains principles for entire life,” he said.

He said the Holy Quran has declared Muslims the best of all nations because it preaches nobility and stops from wrongdoings. Sheikh Abdul Aziz appealed to the religious scholars to promote the true teachings of Islam and invite the people towards the path shown by the Holy Quran and Sunnah. He urged Muslims to spread love and humanity.

He urged the Muslims to remain faithful to their rulers and extend a helping hand to them in meeting the challenges and promoting the teachings of Islam. He said that the enemies want to weaken Muslims and they were incessantly plotting against Muslims. He said polices should be framed to save future generations from bloodshed and anarchy. He said that deviation from Islamic teachings was also one of the reasons for the problems faced by Muslims.

He emphasised the need for bringing reforms in the education system. Muslims from across the globe performed main Hajj rituals at Mount Arafat. After offering Zohr and Asr prayers, they moved to Muzdalfa where they will spend the night under open sky praying for forgiveness of their sins and wellbeing of their countries. On Saturday morning, the Hujjaj will move to the tent city of Mina.
