PM urges ulema to help eliminate extremism, terrorism

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the government inherited many issues like terrorism and power shortfall and asked the ulema to play their positive role in making a progressive Pakistan.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan’s leading Ulema and Mashaikh who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House here on Friday. He also called on the ulema to contribute towards the solidarity of Pakistan by playing their role in eliminating extremism and terrorism from Pakistan and by promoting tolerance and inter-faith harmony.

The prime minister lauded the role played by them in spreading the message of Islam to the masses and in inculcating Islamic values among them. He noted with appreciation that forefathers of these Ulema and Mashaikh played a key role in the creation of Pakistan by supporting Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

He said that the government was committed to providing social and economic justice to the people and has formed a sub-committee of the Cabinet for giving recommendations on reforms. He regretted that certain elements were trying to exploit the name of Islam and Pakistan to create unrest in Pakistan.

Ulema and Mashaikh, which included Dewan Ahmad Masood (Pakpattan Shareef), Khawaja Nasrul Mahmood (Tonsa Shareef), Pir Khalil ur Rahman Chishti (Kamokey Shareef), Pir Syed Arif B Haq Shah (Sialkot), Allama Pir Mushtaq A Shah (Sargodha), Allama G.M. Sialvi (Karachi), Allama Pir Syed Riaz Hussain Shah (Rawalpindi), Pir Syed Hasseen ud Din Shah (Rawalpindi), Pir Kabeer Ali Shah (Choora Shareef), Pir Olya Badshah Farooq (Mohra Shareef), Sahibzada F Hassan Shah (Sehwan Shareef), Sahibzada Mohazimul Haq (Mohazamabad), Dr Abul Khair M Zubair (Hyderabad), Allama Shah Owais Noorani (Karachi), Engr Sarwat Qadri (Karachi), Pir Ateequr Rehman (Dhangri Shareef), Pir Nizamud Din (Sial Sharif), Pir Syed Imran Shah (Sahiwal), Pir Iftikharul Hassan Shah (Alo Mahar), Pir Moinul Haq Shah (Golra Shareef) and Pir Syed Yousuf Shah (Bahawalnagar), assured their full support to the government and its policies.

They also apprised the prime minister of various matters relating to their areas including those related to the Auqaf department.
