INP

ISLAMABAD – Sindh government on Friday informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that an ordinance on new delimitations in the province for holding local bodies elections would be issued in a week.

The disclosure was made before a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk while hearing a case pertaining to legislation for local body polls. Sindh advocate general informed the bench that an ordinance on new delimitations was ready and would be issued in a week. He apologised to the court for the delay.

“You should apologise to the constitution and constitution does not forgive,” Justice Azmat Saeed remarked. He said that the constitutional provisions with regard to local bodies’ polls were not being adhered to. The chief justice remarked that all three provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had done nothing to hold local body polls before the deadline of November 15, set by the Supreme Court.

The court directed attorney generals of Sindh, Punjab and Pakhtunkhwa to take fresh instructions from their respective provincial governments. The case was adjourned till October 14, 2014.
