If PM would have held elections again in current scenario, says Ashraf

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Asharaf said Saturday he would have held elections again if he was the prime minister.

“If I was prime minister and my capital was sealed for 50 days, thousands of containers had been placed and the entry and exit of people became difficult, I would consider what to do. Under the constitutional, lawful and democratic way I would have said hold elections again,” Ashraf told reporters during a news conference.

The former prime minister said he would not get into a debate if asking for a resignation was constitutional, however, if someone wanted to resign that was both constitutional and lawful.

“Even mid-term elections are lawful and constitutional. They are held across the world,” Ashraf said.

Ashraf added the nation should not be scared of holding even 50 elections if this would lead to the election mechanism becoming transparent and people being satisfied.
