May 2013 elections challenged in SC
INP

ISLAMABAD - In what may prove to be a significant development, the whole election process of the 2013 was challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday.

A constitutional petition, which was filed by Justice (R) Mehmood Akhtar, prays the court to declare null and void general elections of May 2013. The petition maintains that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) failed to provide magnetic ink that had affected the transparency of the whole election process.

The petitioner prayed before the court that those responsible should be held accountable. May 2013 elections have been in spotlight during the last few months with serious allegations of rigging leveled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other parties. The PTI is demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign in order to have an independent inquiry into vote fraud.
