No one can usurp power through undemocratic means, says Pervaiz
* Minister says ‘visible economic progress’ witnessed during one year of this government

MIANWALI: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Sunday that PTI Chairman Imran Khan wanted to come to power through street agitation, but times have changed and no one could usurp power through undemocratic means.
Talking to the media here, the minister questioned as to what change Imran had brought in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his party had been in power for the last 14 months. He said both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-a-Insaaf (PTI) would be held accountable by voters in next general elections. Therefore, Imran should mend his ways and serve the masses, he added. Pervaiz Rashid said the PTI chief had failed to attract voters in the previous election through doing politics of allegations and in future too, he would not be able to get votes on mere levelling accusations.
He said terrorism and energy crisis had damaged the country’s economy badly. However due to the corrective steps taken by the government, he added, it had now shown signs of improvement. The minister said the value of rupee had increased against the US dollar. With the fall in dollar value, prices of several items also came down as the purchases from international market were done through dollar. To a question, he said Indian aggression would be highlighted at international fora.
There would be no compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty, he said and added that all types of terrorism would be countered. Every inch of the country’s land would be defended, and life and property of all the citizens would be protected, he vowed. Pervaiz Rashid said five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council would be approached to convey “our viewpoint on Indian violations of ceasefire”. Moreover, he said, a UN observers team was taken to the areas affected by the Indian shelling so that they could have an eye-witness account of the destruction.
Rashid has said that visible economic progress was witnessed during the one year of the present government. He said when the present setup took over, the dollar was of one hundred and twelve rupees. As a result of the steps taken by the Government and its economic team, dollar value was brought down to ninety-eight rupees. He said foreign exchange reserves position was improved considerably. He said there was considerable economic progress in the country before 14th of August. He urged Imran Khan to improve its performance in KPK.
He said that terrorism and energy crisis badly affected the economy of the country. He said they will combat all kinds of terrorism and determination. He said the PML(N) government faced many challenges in the past and will do the same now. He said Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan created hurdles in the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan.
He questioned Imran Khan what he has done for the progress of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last fourteen months. Answering a question, he categorically stated that the government will fully defend and safeguard the country and the people against any aggression. He said the government will not allow any harm on the respect of the motherland. He said Indian aggression will also be encountered at international level.
