LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan would have to give up his demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Talking to journalists outside the Lahore High Court building on Monday, he said that nobody could forcibly take resignation from the prime minister. “Assemblies could only be dissolved on the advice of prime minister,” he added. Aitzaz, leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), said that Nawaz Sharif would never resign. “Time has changed and there is no dictator in the country who could seek resignation from an elected prime minister,” the PPP leader said. “In the presence of a free media and an independent judiciary, the government could not be toppled at the whim of marchers,” he added. Commenting on the decision of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to leave the Sindh government, he said that the MQM had a lust for power which could not let them rest peacefully. Talking about the public gathering of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), he said the number of participants was not in millions, but they were in thousands. “PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri only presented his electoral manifesto in one and a half hour speech,” he added. He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) was a small party and “real PML workers” were still with the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N). Replying to a question, he said that there were no chances of mid-term elections.
