PM takes stock of PMDC’s controversial ad
By Asim Qadeer Rana

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to look into the matters of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) whose standard is declining with every passing day for the last two years, it has been learnt.
The notice came after a controversial job advertisement was printed by the PM&DC allegedly to oblige its favoured employees. In one such glaring example to award higher positions to employees already working in the PM&DC, a job advertisement was placed whereby the PM&DC sought applications from doctors to apply for additional registrar in special pay scale 11 (equivalent to BPS-19), additional secretary special pay scale 11 (equivalent to BPS-19) and director legal (position meant for a blue eyed lawyer) special pay scale 10 (equivalent to BPS-19).
A senior official in the federal government said that the current post of additional registrar has been advertised for Dr Shahista Faisal currently working as the second in the command after Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood, the registrar of the PM&DC.
Dr Raja Amjad is a grade-20 officer of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences now Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. It is worth noting that Dr Raja Amjad is also known to have close ties with media persons and managed to run his job successfully despite multiple administrative and managerial failures in PM&DC which is a reason that no news could get published in major English dailies of the country.
A source told Daily Times that in the PM&DC advertisement printed on Saturday, a clause has been specifically mentioned, which says that “the service of regular the PM&DC employees will remain intact who would apply for the jobs.”
The clause was added by the PM&DC allegedly to benefit its employees working within the council a violation of merit and transparency claims of federal government. “Same is the case with the controversial position of the director legal which has been advertised to benefit a blue eyed lawyer of Supreme Court having close ties with the management and current executive council of the PM&DC,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
When approached, Registrar of the PM&DC Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood was not available in his office. His personal assistant said that Dr Mehmood was unable to respond to this scribe’s call as he has left for a marriage of his cousin.
A second call was made by this reporter at the office of the PM&DC only to be informed that the registrar would like to have a tea at his office and is unable to reply at the moment. A call was also made the office of Dr Sahista Faisal but it remained unattended. The spokesman for the PM&DC was also unavailable to respond to the queries of Daily Times.
However, the office of the Prime Minister said that they would respond to the matter in a day or two. It is worth noting that in sheer violation of rules of business of federal government the PM&DC has already refused to bow to federal government ignored all directions coming time to time from the controlling Ministry of Regulations and Services Division.
