BANNU: District administration has decided to put those parents behind bars who refuse to immunise their children against polio, as cases increase in the district.
Bannu Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ayaz said on Tuesday that action would be taken under the law against the parents who would not get their children under the age of five vaccinated against polio disease, adding that they have been requested to cooperate with polio vaccination teams during the polio eradication campaign.
He said that the government was concerned about the increasing number of polio cases and it has been decided to initiate action against people who would resist administering oral polio vaccine (OPV) to their children.
According to a data provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), thousands of children were missed out in recent polio eradication campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa owing to parents’ refusal.
