Petition challenging 2013 elections approved for hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday accepted a petition challenging the 2013 general elections for hearing. The elections had been challenged by Justice (retd) Muhammad Akhtar Siddiqui.

The petition of Zahid Sarfaraz seeking to declare the 2013 general elections null and void will also be heard during this case.

A three member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ijaz Chaudhry will begin proceedings of the case on October 29.

The petitions state the 2013 elections should be declared null and void due to the faulty magnetic ink used by the Election Commission of Pakistan and rigging. The petition calls on the Supreme Court to order new elections to be held.
