Kashmiris demand Scotland-type referendum to resolve the issue

APPISLAMABAD: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman has said India should hold a referendum in Kashmir like that held recently in Scotland to solve the issue politically.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, APHC Chairman Mir Waiz Omar Farooq said that the entire world knows that more than 800,000 Indian troops had been deployed in occupied Kashmir. “Indian barbarism is continuing there on daily basis,” he said, adding that the international community has adopted double standards on the Kashmir issue. “The Million March will give a message to the international community that Kashmiris should be given right of self-determination,” he added. Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world observed Black Day on October 27 to convey to the world that India has occupied Jammu and Kashmir against their will.
People in Pakistan as well as on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over on Monday observed black day to protest against India’s decades-long occupation of Kashmiri territory. Protest strikes were observed in Indian-occupied Kashmir to mark October 27 as black day to convey to the world that the Kashmiris reject India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. Call for the shutdown had been given by Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Yasin Malik and supported by other pro-freedom organisations and the High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road.
The authorities in the occupied Kashmir deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in Srinagar and other major towns to prevent people from holding anti-India demonstrations. The authorities imposed restrictions in different areas, including Safakadal, Khanyar and Nowhatta in Srinagar. On the other hand, the authorities had placed Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zafar Akbar Butt, and Mohammad Aiyaz Akbar under house arrest to stop them from leading the demonstrations.
A number of Kashmiris, demanding their inalienable right to self-determination, Monday staged a protest demonstration in front of the United Nations building in New York to mark the anniversary of India’s massive invasion and occupation of Kashmir on October 27, 1947 when Indian troops had invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it in total disregard to the partition plan of the Subcontinent .
