MQM agrees to withdraw resignations

ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has agreed to withdraw its resignations from Senate, National and Provincial Assemblies following signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government.

An announcement to this effect was made by Federal Minister Ishaq Dar with MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar at a news conference in Islamabad on Friday evening.

Under the MoU, a Grievance Redressal Committee will be set up to look into alleged complaints of MQM.

The 5-member Committee would be notified within five working days.

The Committee would dispose of complaints in ninety days and present its report to the Federal Government.

Speaking to media Ishaq Dar said the PML-N government believes in national reconciliation for the sake of political stability, which is a must for economic stability.

He thanked the MQM leadership for their cooperation during dialogue with the government.

On this occasion, MQM Leader Farooq Sattar said the government showed political maturity during discussions. He expressed satisfaction over the talks.

The MQM leader said their parliamentarians would start taking back their resignations from Monday.

He said that they support operation in Karachi for the sake of durable peace in the city.

Both sides expressed gratitude to JUI(F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman for his role in the dialogue process.
