BJP members thrash Muslim MLA over beef party in IHK
OnlineISLAMABAD: Several members of Kashmir Legislative Assembly belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) thrashed independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rasheed on the assembly floor a day after he hosted a beef party in Srinagar. Rasheed from Langate had hosted the beef party in the lawns of MLA Hostel in Srinagar on Wednesday, with the guests served beef kebabs, meat balls and beef patties. Ravindra Raina, a member of the BJP, got up from his seat and attacked Rasheed while opposition members intervened to rescue him later. Rasheed had claimed that he did not want to offend anyone but wanted to send a message that no courts or legislature can prevent the people from eating what they want. The step was just to give legislators a clear message that it hardly makes any difference whether you accept or reject the bill, religious matters cannot be kept subservient to courts and assembly, he said.
