SC orders LG election in Islamabad on schedule

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct the local government (LG) elections in Islamabad on the scheduled date, November 30.

While disposing of a petition, a two-member SC bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan ordered the ECP to abide by the earlier order of the court and conduct elections according to the schedule. The ECP additional secretary assured the bench that the delimitation will be completed by October 13. He said that the LG election schedule will be issued after the delimitation process and polls will be held on November 30 according to the schedule.

Also, the apex court ordered formation of a medical board to examine former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain, who is jail on corruption charges. A two-member bench headed by Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani directed Rangers to form the medical team to ensure provision of best medical treatment to Dr Asim.
