UNHRC concerned over rights violation in IHK

GENEVA: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein on Tuesday said that he is seriously concerned about the human rights situation in Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK).

In a press briefing, UNHRC Spokesman Rupert Colville said that the commissioner have also expressed reservations about the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

He urged both Pakistan and India to engage in a dialogue and to de-escalate the situation as the inflammatory remarks on both sides could result in a further deterioration of the human rights situation.

The UNHRC reiterated on their call to allow unfettered and unconditional access to IHK and to be enable them to independently and impartially monitor the human rights situation. It expressed willingness that it is ready to support efforts to de-escalate the situation.
