Pakistan wants peace in region: PM Nawaz
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reiterated that Pakistan is against war and wants durable peace in the region.
Addressing the joint sitting of the Parliament here Wednesday, PM Nawaz said, “Pakistan wants all outstanding issues including Kashmir to be resolved through dialogues.”
“Pakistan is a peace loving country and against any kind of terrorism,” PM Nawaz maintained.
He went on to say Pakistan had no aggressive designs against any country, however it would forcefully respond if its national security was threatened.
Joint session begun with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
Nawaz Sharif said session was summoned to discuss the Indian continued gross atrocities against Kashmiris in Occupied valley.
He said UN resolution on Kashmir are still on the agenda of Security Council and international community should take immediate steps for implementation on these resolutions.
The Premier said Kashmir is burning continuously like volcano and convoy of Hurriyet is on its way to achieve objectives.
He said Indian forces cannot suppress the struggle of Kashmiris for right to self-determination.
The Premier stressed, "World powers need to ensure that UN resolutions on Kashmir should be implemented in letter and spirit."
Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan has a firm commitment to continue its support to Kashmiris for their legitimate struggle.
He said if India desired joint efforts against poverty than it must not rely merely on rhetoric, but should take practical steps and pointed to the contradictory approach by India in their words and deeds.
He, however, said that the objective could not be achieved by passing through “fields of explosives and blood”.
Khursheed Shah
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, while taking part in the discussion, said that the entire nation is united and firmly standing with Kashmiri brethren in their struggle of right to self-determination.
Shah while commending the government for calling the joint session on opposition's demand said that no compromise could be made on Kashmir.
He said the government should have continuously pressed the world for the resolution of Kashmir dispute, adding that the resolutions adopted in the past were not implemented.
"A number of international issues have been resolved, why not the Kashmir dispute," Shah questioned, noting the Pakistan and India have gone to fight wars over the disputed territory.
He said the neighboring arch-rival was not only waging attacks at the border, but was also striving to alienate Pakistan diplomatically.
Shah stressed the need for mobilizing diplomatic corps to highlight Kashmir issue on the international level. He said the time has come when we should take bold decisions.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman said UN has failed to implement its own resolutions on Kashmir issue. He urged the international community to play their due role in solving the longstanding issue of Kashmir.
“We failed to present the Kashmir issue adequately,” he said and added India was constantly trying to avoid talks on the longstanding dispute, while its forces are continuing to massacre innocent Kashmiri people.
Speaking about continued Indian aggression, he said Pakistan would be bound to use its nukes if it came to its survival, hoping that the tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors would not escalate to that level.
He lauded PM Nawaz for highlighting Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly.
In a surprise move on Monday, PTI chief Imran Khan announced that his party was boycotting today’s joint session saying “their presence would be like endorsing Nawaz as the prime minister, which his party would not do.”
