‘Pakistan prefers dialogue over war’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while addressing the joint session of parliament on Wednesday, reiterated Pakistan’s stance that the country’s preferred approach is ‘dialogue over war’.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq chaired the session.

“Pakistan being a peace loving country wants peace in the region and stands against any kind of terrorism,” Nawaz maintained. The government wants all outstanding issues including Kashmir to be resolved through dialogues, he added.

According to Nawaz, the session was summoned to discuss Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiris in the occupied valley. He said that the UN resolution for Kashmiris’ right to self- determination is still on the Security Council’s agenda for which the international community should immediately take measures for its implementation.

Indian forces cannot suppress the struggle of Kashmiris for right to self-determination, the prime minister said and added, “World powers need to ensure that the Kashmir resolution be executed in letter and spirit."

He told the session that Pakistan has a firm commitment to continue its support to Kashmiris – for their legitimate struggle. The joint session of the parliament is summoned to reaffirm national resolve for safeguarding the sovereignty and reiterating support to the people of Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK).
