PEMRA conducts raids against devices airing Indian content

 

KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and other government agencies conducting raids against the Direct to Home (DTH) satellite devices in Sindh – that telecast Indian television channels, a local TV channel reported on Thursday.

PEMRA along with Directorate General Intelligence and Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) are carrying out raids in Karachi against the DTH devices which air Indian and other foreign content.

Government agencies conducted raids in Saddar and Memon Goth whereas a raid also carried out in Electronics Market in Sukkur. Local police also accompanied intelligence and FBR officials in the raids.

Illegal dish antennas, dish television decoders, sea line receivers and low-noise block down converters were seized in the crackdown. PEMRA on Wednesday placed a blanket ban on airing Indian content on television or radio.
