Nawaz Sharif appears before NAB court to face corruption charges

ISLAMABAD: Ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appears before the accountability court on Monday, to face corruption-related charges leveled against him and his family.

It is for the second time; Nawaz Sharif will appear before National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court for the three references filed against him following Supreme Court’s orders on the Panamagate case.

Foolproof security measures have been taken in order to avoid any mishap along the vicinity of the court and the route which the former premier will follow, while ahead of the hearing a heavy enforcement comprising of around 2000 troops has also been deployed near the federal judicial complex.

NAB has also issued bailable arrest warrants for Sharif’s children Hassan, Maryam and Hussain including son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar who are also ordered by the court to face the corruption charges on Monday (October 2nd, 2017).

Media reports indicate that indictment of the former premier will be postponed for a while due to the lack of presence of the other accused in this case. Nawaz Sharif, who himself arrived on September 26th after visiting his wife who is undergoing treatment for lymphoma in London, while Nawaz's children and son-in-law are said to remain in London to tend their recovering mother.

Mohsin nbsp;Ranjha, a member of Nawaz's legal team, said after former premier's appearance to the court, "
That the indictment is postponed until October 9, which is scheduled as the next date of hearing."
