‘PPP never supported Nawaz, but democracy’

GUJRANWALA: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Gujranwala information secretary Sagheer Butt has lashed out at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for making references to the late PPP leaders, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, in his speeches after his disqualification.

He said Nawaz Sharif should remember that he played the key role in putting up the cases against Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari. He added said that it was on the record that "Nawaz Sharif had made calls to the judges for awarding punishment to PPP leaders".

"Nawaz played a key role in disqualification of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani," he said, and alleged that the former premier had illegally accumulated wealth and left the country poorer than before.

He said that the PPP efforts to reinforce democracy were not meant to support ousted premier Nawaz Sharif.

"They would have to face punishment for their crimes," he added.

Sagheer Butt said that the PPP would not be the part of the grand national alliance to protect the Sharif family. "The PPP will only fight for democracy," he concluded.
